Since 1867, Tynemouth rowers have boated at Prior's Haven - that's over 150 years of rowing history! We're the only sliding seat club on the coast for well over 100 miles, and welcome new members of all abilities, from complete novices to experienced, high-performance athletes.*
Rowing is a lifelong sport, widely recognised as one of the best activities for improving both strength and cardiovascular health, so whether you are looking for a new way to enjoy the great outdoors while making friends, or you want to put in some serious training to become competitive, Tynemouth is the club for you!
*Please note, we do not have a junior squad - members must be 18+.
From complete novice to seasoned rower with international ambitions, Tynemouth has a place for you!
Get in touch to find out more about our different squads - we'd be happy to discuss how TRC can support your rowing needs.
Recreational
Our recreational squad meets on Sunday mornings to get out on the water and enjoy our beautiful location. While the members of this squad don't often compete, they do work hard to develop their skills, with more experienced rowers and coaches supporting this. Some recreational squad members take part in events such as the Great Tyne Row - but many are also happy to simply enjoy time on the water with friends.
Club sessions:
Tuesdays 18:00-20:30 (Summer) / 18:30-20:00 (Winter)
Sundays 09:30-11:30
Development
For experienced rowers joining Tynemouth with the aim of competing, or those who have completed a season rowing in our club sessions and want more, we have a coached development squad. Members work on their rowing, coxing and coaching skills, as well as their fitness, through additional land and water sessions, and take part in entry-level competitions throughout the season. As they build skills and experience, they also support and coach club sessions, helping to develop the whole club.
Club sessions plus
Thursdays 18:00-20:30 (Summer) / 18:30-20:00 (Winter)
Sundays 08:15-09:30
Senior
This independent squad is for more experienced and confident rowers who have demonstrated appropriate levels of competence and water safety. Some members compete in river and coastal events. The sessions are self-organised and may be coached.

High Performance
This squad of high-performance national and international-level rowers trains independently in coastal and fine boats. The sessions are self-organised and may be coached.
Ad hoc
While some of our members are content to stick to outings on home waters, others choose to get competitive! Racing of all descriptions - sprints and endurance, entry-level and international, just for fun and seriously serious - means that whatever your rowing level, there will be something for you.
