Ever fancied learning to row? Looking to make the most of the North East's fabulous coast, exercise in the fresh air and meet some new people? Then here is your chance!
Learn to Row (L2R) courses are aimed at complete beginners. You don’t need to know anything about rowing or boats to join one, although you should be able to swim 100m in clothing. Learn to Row courses carefully build your skills so that you’ll soon be able to call yourself a rower! Read about what to expect below, or get in touch to find out more.
What to expect
What you'll learn
You will learn the basics of rowing - starting on a rowing machine before progressing to a boat - and how to stay safe on the water. By the end of the course you will be confident enough to join the club as a novice before moving on to row with the rest of the squad!
When the courses run
We run regular L2R courses, typically starting after Easter. If there isn't an upcoming course listed on our Tasters & Courses page, get in touch to be added to a waiting list!
Who runs the course
Experienced and British Rowing qualified coaches will lead all sessions. Other club members will row in L2R crews to help you learn - and make friends within the club.
What you will need
You don't need any specialist kit - just standard exercise gear, but nothing loose or with pockets that could catch on the boat or oar handles. We boat directly from the beach, so you will also need shoes that you don't mind getting wet - old trainers are ideal.
